At 3pm on the 15th October at the Johannesburg Arts, Culture and Heritage Offices, (02 Helen Joseph Street, Newtown), Africa4Palestine joined by leaders from AL JAMA-AH, COSATU, SACP, ANC, ILAWU and others, submitted over 60,000 physical letters advocating for the renaming of Sandton Drive to Leila Khaled Drive.
This historic submission exceeds any previous public submissions for a name change in Johannesburg.
The memorandum was delivered to the MMC responsible for Community Development, Al jama-ah PR Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda and the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Dada Morero.
