Al Jama-ah is proud to present Yakoob “Jakes” Karolia as the party’s Ward 9 councillor candidate in the upcoming by-elections taking place on 11 September 2024.
Karolia will replace former Ward Councillor Imraan Moosa who has since been deployed to head the party’s National Parliamentary Office. Moosa’s incredible success led to him winning the same Ward in the two previous elections and succeeded in setting new standards for service delivery in South Africa; as a result of his sterling work, it thus earned him the nickname “beloved councillor.

It is without a doubt that Yakoob Karolia will continue with the incredible work as the two were inseparable. Karolia is not new to the Lenasia community as he is currently serving in different roles serving that community.

Besides being a businessman, Karolia is a member of the Lenasia safety and security committee, the vice chairperson of the Tiger football club, and a community liaison facilitator. He is basically the contact point person between volunteers, community members, and local organisations.
Karolia also developed and implemented programs aimed at addressing community needs, such as food drives, educational workshops, and clean-up campaigns.

Moosa’s deployment to parliament is a strategic move to establish a National Parliamentary Constituency office in Lenasia’s Ward 9. The constituency office will handle people’s grievances far beyond that Ward; and if necessary, he will address issues in all spheres of government.
If Yakoob Karolia succeeds to be the next Ward Councillor, then he will provide the same high level services to the community.

All this is done to improve service delivery and with the aim of converting Ward 9 into a smart ward as announced by party leader Hon Ganief Hendricks, who is an MP and the DM of Social Development.

The parliamentary constituency office under Moosa’s leadership will provide state of the art services such as

  •  Seeing to the management of Drug rehabilitation programs;
  •  Ensuring the implementation of the Children’s Act;
  •  Assisting NPOs to access funding;
  •  Offering support to the existing school of skills:
  •  Making sure that a sustainable agricultural project is be launched in Ward 9;
  •  Sorting out application forms for old age pensioners; and
  •  Managing the social grants and related matters.
