AL JAMA-AH CALLS ON SA TO ASSIST SA DOCTORS EXPATRIATES
27 APRIL 2020

AL JAMA-AH leader in Parliament, Hon Ganief Hendricks expressed his disappointment that the Department of Health will not be employing ABOUT 50 South African medical expatriates or to facilitate their return to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where they are employed. In an early morning Virtual Meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Health Hon Hendricks who serves as an alternate Member, informed the Committee of the plight of doctors and other expatriates in various professions.

The expatriates contacted the Party through its Parliamentary National Constituency office Covid-19 Hotline. They are also eager to be employed and assist to curb the spread of COVID-19 for as long as they are needed in South Africa. But it now appears that these highly qualified doctors can now only come forward to volunteer their services as the Committee will send a proposal to the Minister of Health. The 100 expatriates also include pathologists, nurses, health care workers, medical engineers, public speakers, finance manager, teachers and housewives who have spouses and small children waiting for them in the KSA.

Al Jama-ah believes that these doctors and health care workers can also contribute globally in the FIGHTBACK by facilitating their return to their places of appointment abroad. This will also help to flatten the global curve. The Parliamentary Constituency Office will send the contact details and qualifications, expertise of these professional medical doctors to the Minister and Acting Director General of the Department of Health. The Party will also appeal to the Department of International Relations and Department of Transport to assist all the expatriates to return to their places of work and families living abroad with them.

According to the information, some of these doctors have the same qualifications as that of the Cuban doctors. It is understood there are more than 500 medical experts available in South Africa ready to serve the country during this pandemic.
Attached are the contact details and data of the expatriates.
