AL JAMA-AH Leader in Parliament calls on Portfolio Committee on Justice to bring the Experian Data company to Parliament for compromising 24 million South Africans personal information.
The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services has accepted AL JAMA-AH’s suggestion to summon the Experian Data company to Parliament to explain the compromising of the Constitutional rights of personal and banking information of 24 million South African and 800 000 businesses.
AL JAMA-AH’s leader in Parliament, Hon. Ganief Hendricks raised the suggestion to the Portfolio Committee at an early Virtual Platform this morning. Hon. Hendricks asked that immediate and punitive action be taken not only against Experian, but also the major banks who are servicing clients.
Hon. Hendricks questioned how South Africa’s Bureaus could be hacked, why more secured security infrastructure is in place, and why is there an increase in the number of hacks over the past few months. Questioning further, the measures in place to avoid this breach of security and the advancement of our technological infrastructure.
Any personal information which is signed off by a consumer, entrusts that their data is secured and that the company is using the highest form of technological security to protect this information. It is a concern when this type of breach is happening at the highest level and impacting 24 million individuals. Potentially every single person who owns a bank account now has their personal information compromised.
Hon. Hendricks also called for more stringent efforts to be implemented to protect South Africans personal information and data. Having 24 million South Africans and 800000 businesses data currently in the possession of fraudsters is unacceptable.
