AL JAMA-AH says the newly elected Board members to the NYDA not conforming to the ACT
The AL JAMA-AH party is disappointed that the Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities and the Select Committee on Health and Social Services have ignored the party’s concerns raised that the shortlisted candidates for the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) were not representative of the demographics and geography of the population groups in South Africa.
With the announcement of the shortlisted candidates AL JAMA-AH wrote to the Committees Chairpersons and the Speaker of Parliament early in July 2020 expressing concerns over the selection and requested for an extension to allow more people to apply for the positions.
Our correspondences were only acknowledged and nothing further. We reiterate that the new NYDA Board is not conforming to the ACT 54 of 2008 which clearly states the following on:
Principles of Youth Development
4. (g) recognition of the importance of cultural and spiritual diversity as a basis for youth development and
Composition, Appointment and Conditions of Service of the Board –
9. (4) Members must reflect the demographics and geographical spread of the Republic.
It is clear the selection of the newly elected Board members are not conforming to the Act.
