PR Councillor Shameemah Salie attended ICare Childrens Day Women’s Day event and spoke as both Ambassador of ICare Children Foundation and Al Jama-ah PR Councillor. Shameemah Salie received an award for engaging with several stakeholders, feeding communities, and catering for children in orphanages and safe houses.

Hazendal (Bokmakierie)

  • Actively involved in youth day event in Bokmakierie ensured contribution of 2 pots of food through I Care Childrens Foundation and contributed 100 party and care packs towards the event.

New Horizons

  • Actively in Youth day program held in New Horizons/ Pelican Park and Eagle Park day included youth speakers, placards, SAPS, several organizations including Al Jama-ah/ and CTIEC and New Horizonz Islamic Trust. Secured the donations of 3 pots of food Icare Children Foundation, Ighsaan Odendaal and Classic Butcher and Family Dollie Morgan
  • Contributed 120 party packs

TCSA

  • Represented Al Jamaah at Soccer tournament held in solidarity with Youth in Palestine.

Mannenberg

  • Assisted family with home burnt down due to electrical wires on pole shared by City and Telkom
  • Assisted with securing donations for family clothes, groceries, toiletries and medication and creating awareness of the situation
  • C3 notice logged

Milnerton

  • Doors of Jannah assisted with marketing advice on the NPO project creating a fund for youth education of development for students in need

Tennyson Masjid

  • Have been contacting and liasing with the Masjid surrounding the by laws on athaan and have engaged I regular updates on progress

Mowbray Cemetery

  • As a board member of the cemetery continued to work with an engage with the matters relating to improvement of the cemetery on both admin level and on physical changes. Engagement on matters at cemetery is on daily basis as well as engagement with community
  • Several new upgrades in cemetry

Social media engagement:

  • Several topics and interaction covered in order to ensure that we hear the voices of the people and promote public participation and awareness.
  • Gangsters and drugs from social media interaction and engagement concerns was elevated to President of Al Jama-ah who in turn elevated the concerns in Parliament surrounding the children of Cape flats being held hostage at schools due to gang violence. Presidents bring matter to Parliament ensured immediate response of required stakeholders to the relevant area.

Kidnappings :

  • Actively participated in creating awareness on social media and news platforms and via media surrounding increased kidnappings. President proceeded to elevate the concerns as well on Parliamentary level

  • Cable Theft remains a constant problem in the relevant area and assistance has been provided to the community surrounding theft of cables as well as litter issues in the area and follow up
  • Provided Breaking Barriers and NPO in New Horizons with groceries to assist in feeding of the community especially young children
  • On the radar: With youth day on 16 June 2022 have been assisting the community with their youth day event to be held. On behalf of Al Jama-ah we will be sponsoring food via ICare as well as party packs. I have been requested to speak at the event.

New Horizons

  • Attended to and utilized social media platforms to secure assistance for home that burnt down in New Horizons
  • Personally assisted with gas cylinder, 4 bags of clothing and shoes towards 9 members affected, and secured assistance of CTIEC with groceries and the removal of debris from the relevant home
  • Elevated request for removal of debris
  • At this stage due to media lives and photos compiled assistance continues to flow in.
  • On the radar: 16 June 2022 event in process of arranging youth day event to be held in New Horizons/ Pelican Park and Eagle Park day will include youth speakers, placards, SAPS, several organizations including Al Jama-ah/ ministrels/ drum majorettes to create a strong message as well as a vibe that is for both youth and community involvement

    Rondebosch

    • Rondebosch library
    • Assisted with C3 notice surrounding cable theft and follow up

      BoKaap

      • Business requested assistance with Tree trimming due to the impact of trees especially in winter on business
      • Engaged with Doors of Jannah Noog Hassan surrounding assistance required in Du Noon as well as an educational structure for those in need commencing from Western Cape and

      Tennyson Masjid

      • By law on religious calls to prayers being considered a nuisance
      • Further to the meeting April 2022 where the Mayor backtracked and failed to remove the by law and instead amended the SOP. The masjid in Tennyson Street received a very Draconian and threatening notice surrounding the sounds of the athaan.
      • Have proceeded from onset to assist the relevant Masjid with necessary info
      • Assisting with Tennyson Masjid petition against COCT bylaw as well as spoke on radio VOC surrounding the matter before Council in April and the impact on the community which can be clearly seen from Draconian notice received.
      • Have extended hand to provide Masjid with assistance on their outreach programmes as well

      Mowbray Cemetery

      • As a board member of the cemetery continued to work with an engage with the matters relating to improvement of the cemetery on both admin level and on physical changes. Engagement on matters at cemetery is on daily basis as well as engagement with community
      • Assisted with arrangements for thikr and program in honour of donors at Cemetery
      • A pertinent matter this month relates to the burial of a homeless young lady Aisha Sulayman whose family could not be located
      • Al Jama-ah was invited to attend and I represented both the City and the Party at the burial as well as being there for the deceased as no family was in attendance.
      • Being on the Community Health Portfolio the situation surrounding her death has been elevated and proposals made to work towards better screening of the homeless. Assisting them in securing smart cards and securing information of next of kin. Further as the deceased passed on from TB I have elevated requests for screening of homeless in the relevant vicinity who had contact to deceased as she sadly was a TB defaulter and it is suspected that cause of death may have been TB.

      A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2021 COUNCILLORS

      WITH the gazetting of the official results by the Independent Electoral Commission(IEC) following the local government elections on 1 November, the focus now turns to the first Municipal council meeting. Once announced, the new councillors and the political leadership of the various wards and Cities are announced and sworn in.
