IN COMMEMORATION OF NAKBA DAY

IN COMMEMORATION OF NAKBA DAY

Nakba Day, which was observed on 15 May 2024, is a commemoration of the Nakba – the Palestinian Catastrophe – which comprised the onset of the destruction of Palestinian life and society upon their homeland from1948, causing the violent and widespread tragic displacement of the majority of the Palestinian people.

The violation of the Palestinian people started here, in 1948, with the blueprints for this violent colonial project already taking root in the early 1900’s and given public expression through the Balfour Declaration published on 2 November 1917.

It was this undeniably unjust, cruel and unlawful declaration, on a worthless piece of paper, between two key roleplayers within the entities which set themselves up as the superpowers of their time, that caused the domino effect in the destruction of Palestine.

Al Jama-ah was categorically the FIRST political party to place the Palestinian cause on the Parliamentary agenda. The party further is the only party that rejects the double-edged policy which aims to force an unsustainable, unfeasible and unjust narrative on the elusive red-herring: the two-state solution.

Among its public engagements and stand for the rights of Palestine to be free from colonisation, and safe from genocide, Al Jama-ah regularly publicly protests against the Zionist project in Palestine and within our own borders, participates in media platforms and refuses their patronage to all Zionist companies which sponsor the bloody genocide of our Palestinian people.

In joining the commemoration of Nakba Day, Al Jama-ah hosted a motorcade through Factreton, Kensington and Maitland, and thereafter, made its way to sign the Pledge in support of the liberation of Palestine, at the Cape of Good Hope Castle.

Al Jama-ah urgently calls for the protection of the Palestinian people, for Sanctions against the Israeli Occupying Forces for the atrocities they are committing in Palestine, including Genocide and other International Crimes.

The Party further urges that similar smart sanctions be effected against business and states that are aiding and abetting and are otherwise complacent in these crimes.

Campaigning in the Western Cape

The DA has governed the Western Cape since 2009, this year, that changes!

The Al Jama-ah team has been taking to the streets, spreading the word:

With every step reaffirming our unwavering commitment to championing the rights and needs of our people.

AL JAMA-AH’s Lawmakers stand out in 3 tiers of government:

Several of Al Jama-ah’s lawmakers in the three tiers of government have made great strides in being elected on committees which address fundamental Issues affecting communities at local, provincial, national and international level

The party has good reason to be proud of its lawmakers who have made great strides leading to their representations on various committees. These include Member of Parliament, Hon Ganief Hendricks; Member of Provincial Legislature WC: Hon Galil Brinkhuis; Executive Mayor City of Johannesburg, Kabelo Gwamanda, Ward Councillor Imraan Moosa; and its PR Councillors

in KwaZulu-Natal, Asghar Khan and G.M Cele; and in the City of Cape Town (CoCT) Adv Shameemah Salie.

Apart from several other achievements made to benefit the party’s constituencies, Hendricks was a delegate and member of the SA Parliamentary delegation at the recent BRICS summit held in Johannesburg; Brinkhuis was selected by the WC Legislature to form part of a delegation to the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference which took place in Ghana over the last few days.

In the ‘city of gold’ and South Africa’s largest economic hub, Gwamanda was elected by a coalition of opposition parties to lead the CoJ as mayor and the party’s ‘beloved’ ward councillor in Lenasia, Johannesburg, Moosa, is the Chairperson of Johannesburg’s Environment and Infrastructure Services which comprises the City Power, Water and PickItup services.

Furthermore, the party’s PR councillors, Asghar Khan in KwaZulu-Natal is the Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee; and Cele has been elected earlier this year as Chief Whip at the Umuziwabantu Local Municipality; Adv Salie was this week appointed by the CoCT executive mayor to serve on the Area Local Drug Action Committee.

Al Jama-ah’s CEO, Professor Haron says the party is proud of its Lawmakers’ progress which is indicative of their hard work and commitment to serve the people.

Cllr Achmat Hendricks Report | July – September 2023

Over the last few years I have worked diligently with different NPO’s and NPC’s to expand the footprint of Al Jama-ah in MPlain. Mitchell’s Plain consists of 9 Wards and is a significant area to cover.

Because I have access to COCT, Western Cape Government and National Parliament, I work mostly with aspirant councillors.

My main focus is service delivery excellence and to help the community whereever possible. As part of this service, I manage all housing queries in the immediate and surrounding areas, as well as indigent grants.
Mll Ely and Mll Reyan are the perfect partners and we work well together as a team.
Together I believe we will go from strength to strength.

In our most recent Membership Drive we attained:
– 50 memberships
– processed housing queries: 75
– processed Indigent Grants: 47
– new business ventures: 2
– Joint Venture: 49 Flea market Sunday venture with Mll R Petersen
– Mll Ely: 182 memberships
– Mll R Petersen: 247 memberships

Housing:
A constant challenge on managing the housing appplication process is logistics – due to the realities of their circumstances, applicants keeps changing telephone numbers. So when the City receive their request they cannot be reached.
Newer applications now process 100% online, the applicant then receives an sms to say that they are now registered. As for new projects being built the Councillor of the Ward must be notified.

Indigent Grant :
Our deadline was 30 June 2023. The City fulfillment document was thankfully reduced from 9 pages to 2 pages, however all  the applications had to be reprocessed because requirements changed on 3 August. A COGTA document now had to be signed by every applicant who house was evaluated at above 450k.
This has been challenging, as Pelican Park is the custodian of these documents and in most instances the Sassa form and Affadavidt is missing. All 40 applications are now waiting on the COGTA form. So pensioners who were billed for the month of July, now want a refund!!

National Dialogue on Coalition Governments

National Dialogue on Coalition Governments

The National Dialogue on Coalition Governments [4-5 August 2023] was hosted by the Deputy President Mashatile, in collaboration with the Dullah Omar Institute at the University of the Western Cape.

“When we form those thresholds and frameworks and mechanisms that will guide us – just as the Constitution guides us – we must do this with the citizen in mind.

It is not only about politics; it also has to be about the administration. We cannot have political musical chairs played in the political realm of governance! We have to talk about how we create stability and professionalism in an administration process. At the same time, it is not about the Municipal Managers, the Director Generals, and the Heads of Departments who are also being shuffled around. When all sides are playing that game the citizens suffer, and service delivery suffers.

This dialogue must turn into a concrete framework, a concrete set of rules that we must urgently put in place to make sure that the next 30 years of governments in South Africa give the citizens the services, dignity, aspirations, and the environment that they deserve. We have that responsibility and opportunity here, and we must do it with the “fierce urgency of now”.

Cllr Achmat Hendricks Report | January – July 2023

JANUARY – JULY 2023

During the latter part of January and beginning February all focus was on the Kensington by-election.

I attended most of the meetings, assisted the candidate with campaigning, and supported campaigners with general guidance. We packed 120 gift packs for older persons in Kensington.

But we started too late. We should have started in December/January with service delivery and getting to know our voters.

Supported and arranged soccer matches for local youth
Phillipi with Mll Ely.
Gave 2 Soccer balls to Beacon of Hope Soccer.
2x balls to Wymo football club in Woodstock.
2 x balls for Mll Ely soccer club.
