Hot on the heels of getting a delegation by the GNU to empower older persons Deputy Minister of Social Development and Leader of the AL JAMA-AH party, Honourable Ganief Hendricks launched a Granny’s football club in Thornton in the Southern Suburbs, Western Cape on Sunday 17 November 2024.

In his address, Honourable Hendricks said: ‘Seniors’ continues to play important roles in society; they are an extension of the communities’ identity and the extended part of their familial cum communal connection: whether it is within the sporting sector and in other social circles, all of these add value and concretely contribute to bringing diverse communities together!

In our religious and cultural communities, we are taught not only to respect our parents but to serving them; this is considered a noble duty. Nay, doing so is an honor and a blessing; our responses to their needs and wants should be viewed as part of our spiritual growth. So, the caring for our Seniors should be with limitless compassion and committed support.

In his speech DM Honourable Ganief Hendricks shared a controversial extract from the memoirs of Pirates striker Gora Ebrahim (image below) also in attendance at the launch of Thornton Granny soccer team.
