Al Jama-ahis proud to present Yakoob “Jakes” Karolia as the party’s Ward9 Councillor
Karolia will replace former Ward Councillor Imraan Moosa who has since been deployed to head the party’s National Parliamentary Office.
It is without a doubt that Yakoob Karolia will continue with the incredible work as the two were inseparable. Karolia is not new to the Lenasia community. He will just been serving in a different capacity going forward.
Besides being a businessman, Karolia is a member of the Lenasia safety and security committee, the vice chairperson of the Tiger football club, and a community liaison facilitator. He is the contact point person between volunteers, community members, and local organisations.
Karolia also developed and implemented programs aimed at addressing community needs, such as food drives, educational workshops, and clean-up campaigns.
As your new Ward Councillor, he will continue to provide the same high level services to the community as you have received in the past, and with Moosa will continue to improve service delivery in Ward 9. Al Jama-ah’s goal is to convert Ward 9 into a smart ward as announced by party leader Hon Ganief Hendricks, the DM of Social Development.
The parliamentary constituency office under Moosa’s leadership aims to provide state of the art services to the community of Lenasia, including Seeing to the management of Drug rehabilitation programs; Ensuring the implementation of the Children’s Act; Assisting NPOs to access funding; Offering support to the existing school of skills: Making sure that a sustainable agricultural project is be launched in Ward 9; Sorting out application forms for old age pensioners; and Managing the social grants and related matters.
WHO IS YAKOOB ‘JAKES’ KAROLIA?
Yakoob Karolia commonly known as ‘Jakes’ is a local businessman. For the past 30 years he has been doing voluntarily work for the Masjied E-Hamza in Lenasia Extension 9 and is currently the Vice- Chairperson.
He is a member of the Lenasia Safety and Security Committee and serves on the Community Police Forum.
Karolia shares great empathy with the homeless and landless people, but believes there must be
rules and regulations which must be adhered to. As part of safety and security he mobilizes support for SAPS during land ‘invasions’ and other safety related matters.
He is the Vice Chairperson of the South African National Parks Honorary Rangers-JHB. Participates in community sports, coaches, and trains various teams in different soccer divisions. And is the Vice Chairperson of Tiger Football Club.
Jakes has served as Community Liaison as the contact point between Volunteers, community members and local organisations. As mentioned earlier, he is not new to community work: Karolia also developed and implemented programs aimed at addressing community needs, such as food drives, educational workshops, and clean-up campaigns
