My responsibility is to represent Al Jama-ah.
I operate in all stations where the community needs me.
I do everything from the everyday to council representation. Logging water calls on SAP, and assisting people with municipal issues – water queries, power issues, dumping, parks and forest refuse, unemployment, safety and security, police neighborhood, library services and clinics.

My challenge is that I really want to help people but sometimes my hands are tied due to the nature of the problem, especially when it comes to unemployment and water queries, which affects the livelihood of the community.

I do walkabouts in Lentegeur. House visits to pensioners. Assist with farming and help with the Wednesday feeding schemes – our goal is to grow a sustainable community.

I am also the preferred partner in education with Master Genius Leadership Academy and assist in the Saturday Maths and language classes to help the next generation with their future success.

Born and raised in District 6 currently living in MPlain –I liked to play soccer, rugby and cricket, later had my own soccer club New Lentegeur 35 years. Prior history we had a shop in Lentegeur, opp the station. I am currently a Proportional Representative of the COCT on Subcouncil 18. About  Subcouncil 18 consists of six wards and runs from Wynberg, through Lotus River, Parkwood and Grassy Park, to Retreat and Lavender Hill. Subcouncil 18. 63, 65, 66, 68, 80, 110. I serve as on the Human Settlements Portfolio.

My responsibility is representing Al Jama-ah at council and act according to the mandate as a partner. I operate in all voting stations where the community needs me. My community services are logging water calls on SAP and assist people with municipal issues. I also look at all community issues such as water queries and electricity,dumping of sites sewerage, parks and forest refuse, unemployment, safety and security, police neighborhood, library services and clinics.

My challenges are that I want to really help the people but sometimes my hands are tied due to the nature of the problem especially unemployment and the water queries as this affects the livelihood of the community. I am the business partner that assist in the area with dumping near businesses on the fields. I do walk -abouts in Lentegeur.

I do house visits where there are pensioners that cannot come here. Its business as usual and we are all in it to grow a sustainable community. I assist with farming and help give food to the less fortunate every Wednesday. I am the preferred partner in education with Master Genius Leadership Academy and thus assist in the Saturday Maths and languages classes as a game changer to help the next generation with their planning to be successful.

2022
  • Councillor Achmad Hendricks is AL JAMA-AH’s PR councillor for Subcouncil 17 in the City of Cape Town (CoCT) and is a representative on the Portfolio Committees on Community Services and Health.
  • He is involved in various community projects in New Lentegeur. One of the projects includes assisting Al-Maamana, a non-profit organisation who started providing 400 children and adults with daily meals since the onset of COVID-19. The feeding project continues and he helps with fundraising and distribution of the meals. Cllr. Hendricks also plays an oversight role, ensure that the Covid-19 health and safety regulations are adhered to.
  • He was instrumental in securing seeds and compost from the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) which Al-Maamana could plant on the farm and grow its own food. On the 1 5000 square metres farm, they grow potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, green pepper, dania (green coriander leaves), lettuce, beetroot, carrots, onions and spinach.
  • Councilor Achmat Hendricks was first on the scene doing assessments on a house that burnt down in Lenteguer, Cornflower Street. Father and son is deceased and their aunty passed away from 3rd-degree burns in Groot Schuur Hospital. The mother of the house suffers from burnt feet and the youngest son managed to escape. They have been accommodated by the neighbours. No further assistance was received from any of the city officials or organizations. Another family house burned down in Mitchell’s plain in November. We could assist these Muslim families that lost everything thanks to Clr Achmat Hendricks and Mumienah Gamieldien that came out and assisted the families. Aljama-ah managed to give them 2 bags of clothing, blankets, toiletries and parcels
  • Attended BPO career expo in Athlone to create opportunities for 1000 people
  • Provided cooking lessons for disabled teenagers of SCF
  • Dealt with water queries and loggings onto SAP office
  • Provided service delivery for the community and offered and gave advice on water and electricity issues
  • Conducted a Community service health tour
  • Attended a community service health PC workshop: Municipal Facility Management Community
  • Showed support on behalf of Aljama-ah to the family who lost their belongings in the devastating fire in Lavender Hill, Cape Town by donating blankets and food.

  • Small Business( MP is a member on this portfolio so we work hand in hand)
  • Youth Internet centre to assist with projects freewi-fi by using tablets to bridge the gap especially matriculants. CV’s, photo copies etc.

 

2021

Activities: 

  • He was involved in the mobilisation of 10 volunteers to train them to do campaigning in Mitchells Plain
  • He conducted education classes for slow learners
  • Attended several funerals of community
  • Dealt with several crisis service delivery issues such as water queries, indigent grants, electrical issues, housing
  • Assisted NPO,  Al Maamana feeding scheme serving 350 residents with food and food parcels during Covid-19.
  • Provided  relief assistance to residents whose houses burnt down
  • Handed out food parcels for the people who lost their homes viz. Cornflower street, Beacon Valley
  • Encourage entrepreneurship  by providing sewing lessons for the youth in the community
  • Started up a Vegetable garden in Plumbago Park by organizing seeds and compost from WC Government
  • Held meetings with residents and showed support to those families related to  Covid-19 deaths
  • Conducted fieldwork within Lenteguer
  • Assisting NPO (Al Maamana) outreach programme feeding 300 people and kids in Lentegeur
