AL JAMA-AH condemns act of water sabotage which left thousands of residents in the City of Johannesburg without water for days:
Al Jama-ah Party has called on those parties who wish to make the City of Johannesburg ungovernable, to rather work with the Executive Mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda to prevent any further acts of sabotage to the city’s water supply.
The call follows yesterday’s (Wednesday 13 March 2024) confirmation that apart from lightning which affected transformers, a closed valve had contributed to the challenge of water supply to certain areas in Joburg. According to Gwamanda it was discovered that a water valve was closed, leaving some areas in Joburg without water for 10 days.
The party’s leader and Member of Parliament who serves on the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation, yesterday condemned the previous four Ministers and the 40 senior officials in the department who are facing criminal charges and the hundreds of workers in the department who are facing disciplinary action for the water supply problems caused throughout the country.
Hendricks says the Gwamanda, a hardworking mayor, should not be blamed for the problems which led to water shortages in Joburg but that the officials, who are responsible for these sections, be held accountable for not taking care of their duties.
