Al Jama-ah Party calls on the Minister of Sports to stop the domination of patriarchy in ladies’ soccer clubs.

The Party was reacting to Banyana Banyan’s refusal to play a friendly match against Botswana on Sunday at the Tsakane Stadium, southeast of Johannesburg citing the stadium as being unsuitable for international football.

Al Jama-ah’s leader and Member of Parliament Hon Ganief Hendricks, describes the Banyana Banyana’s send off to the World Cup as “poor and filled with patriarchy.” “For the friendly match against Botswana to be held at a 5000-seat stadium in Brakpan and not at a World Cup venue, is quite demoralising for the team. I will put a Parliamentary question to the Minister as to what his plans are to stop this patriarchy domination in ladies’ sports,” says Hendricks.

The Party further calls on the Minister to have a stadium built for ladies’ soccer clubs which will stop their dependence on men for the keys to open the gates at the stadiums. The party’s Member of Legislature in the Western Cape, Hon Galil Brinkhuis, has played an instrumental role in introducing the Directors of RV Sports, which is funded by UNESCO and Manchester United, to the Western Cape’s Standing Committee on Community Safety, Cultural Affairs and Sports.

RV Sports has earmarked grounds in Wynberg to develop a state-of-the-art girls soccer academy complex; as far as the party is concerned, our women (managed) soccer clubs should have their own stadiums. Let us respect them and grant the necessary leverage to control and manage their soccer programs locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. .
