PRESS RELEASE
NO EMBARGO

 25 October 2020

Al Jama-ah is noting Patriotic Alliance’s Expression of Intent in the city of Johannesburg

Al Jama-Ah is a party that forms part of the current coalition in the City of Johannesburg known as GLU (government of local unity) and tasked with the role of oversight in governance. We would like to take point on this critical issue by expressing our dissatisfaction as it relates to the narrative of the Sunday Times (Newspaper Article) *”I do not play with power”*.

The statement and the context are far-reaching and/or melodramatic even if it is by the President of the Patriotic Alliance himself Mr. Gayton McKenzie as alleged. An exposed malevolent intent and a reflection of the reality in the coalition are not synonymous, therefore what applies in the economic development cluster cannot be narrated as a blanket statement across the entire City of Johannesburg. We stand opposed to any of the elements of the city’s capture and we advocate for a safer city and clean governance.

Al Jama-Ah would like to be noted though, as saying that these utterances by the P.A leadership should serve as a stern warning not only to the ANC but also to the potential voters; the misplacement of trust has dire consequences especially where there is too much ambiguity when it relates to the separation of power.

Finally, in conclusion, the Government of Local Unity (GLU) lead by the ANC will undertake a process to resolve Political Party ambitions and deformation of the character of the current administration and all other partnering political parties.
