HUMAN TRAGEDY UNFOLDING AT MASIPHUMELELE
Several TV crews are filming a human tragedy unfolding at Masiphumelele Informal Settlement in Noordhoek on how people are exposed to the cold and story weather unleashing in the Western Cape.
AL JAMA-AH Member of Parliament, Hon Ganief Hendricks sent an urgent letter to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament to inform them of even worst human living conditions than the conditions the Public Protector found when she visited Masiphumelele last year.
The Director of Environment Enforcement also found the conditions as the “worst human living conditions” and threatened to lay criminal charges against City of Cape Town officials. AL JAMA-AH has now written to the Director to carry out his mandate to get the green scorpions to charge the relevant officials.
The residents live on both sides of the 7 sewage infested canals and it is heart breaking for AL JAMA-AH to see the African child live in sewage, eat in sewage and still has to sleep in sewage after the storms.
The solution which ANC Treasurer General Paul Mashatile proposed years ago when he visited the informal settlement, was to move the residents on the sides of the 7 canals to dry vacant land next to the sports field which is adjacent to this sewage infested precinct. This was then approved by the then city mayor under ANC RULE.
The reason for the delay was the objection from residents of the nearby white suburbs about “black creep” into their suburbs.
