AL JAMA-AH mourns the death of Boeta Yusuf Abrahams a founder member of Majlis Shura

The AL JAMA-AH is saddened by the death of Boeta Yusuf Abrahams a founder member of Masjlis Shura which was headed by Sheikh Mahdi of the Azzavia Mosque in Walmer Estate, Cape Town.
Boeta Yusuf was a thought leader, an educator who was very passionate about uniting Muslims and rallied 120 mosques to work under the Maslis Shura (a Muslim Parliament) to coordinate and address the education and welfare matters of Muslims in the Western Cape.
As an educationist he was driving force behind the start of the first Islamic educational institute of higher learning in South Africa, the Usulludin College with Sheikh Sharkie Gamieldien as principal and he served as the Registrar. AL JAMA-AH president and leader in Parliament, Hon Ganief Hendricks assisted Boeta Yusuf with the graduate the students like Imam Riedaar Behardien who excelled as a thought leader and Mumienah Hendricks who also got a formal Ijazah from Sheikh Sharkie.

In 1975 the Majlis Shura adopted boeta Yusuf’s protocols on Halaal standards after he and Dr Southey a top vet did a ground-breaking inspection of the Maitland abattoirs after a complaint from an electrician working there and reforms followed.

Boeta Yusuf excelled as a well-thought leader, a gentle person that stood out above the rest of his peers. He was a revolutionary in every bone of his body and when he spoke there was absolute silence. He was vociferous against the occupation of Palestine, colonial imperialism and all forms of injustices. He often expressed his strong views against zionism and the plight of the poor on mainstream and community radio stations.

He will be sorely missed and we pray the Almighty grants him a high abode in heaven. Our sincere condolences to his wife aunty Mariam, children and families and the community of Cape Town who lost a great and conscientious activist.
