PRESS STATEMENT BY AL JAMA-AH ON WELCOMING RAMADAN
As the holy month of Ramadan begins, Al Jama-ah, under the leadership of Honourable Ganief Hendricks, President of Al Jama-ah and Deputy Minister of Social Development, extends its warmest wishes to all Muslims worldwide. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time for fasting, reflection, self-control, empathy for the less fortunate, and a deeper connection to God.
This sacred month is not only a time for spiritual growth but also an opportunity to promote peace, unity, and solidarity among Muslim communities around the world. Al Jama-ah firmly believes that Ramadan should be a time free from hardship and suffering, and we stand in support of all those who are unable to observe the month with the peace and dignity they deserve.
In the spirit of this holy occasion, Deputy Minister Hendricks has taken significant steps to ensure that the religious freedoms of Muslims, particularly those in challenging circumstances, are respected. As part of this initiative, Deputy Minister Hendricks is working towards a peaceful Ramadan for Muslims in conflict zones, including Sudan, Syria, Yemen, and Palestine, as well as urging for peaceful observance among all people, including those in conflict with established authorities.
Furthermore, Al Jama-ah is advocating for the well-being of nearly 100 Uyghur Muslims who were deported from Thailand to China. We call for these individuals to be allowed to observe Ramadan freely, with proper humanitarian support to ensure sustainable livelihoods. It is our firm belief that Ramadan should be a time of peace, compassion, and understanding, and we call for all Muslims, regardless of their situation, to be treated with the respect they deserve during this sacred month.
Al Jama-ah also reiterates its commitment to ensuring that Muslims worldwide, especially in regions with large Muslim populations such as China, can observe Ramadan without fear or hindrance. This includes advocating for the release of imprisoned Muslim leaders so that they may join in the Eid celebrations and experience the joy of the holy month.
As we enter this blessed month, Al Jama-ah calls on all Muslims to observe Ramadan with patience, devotion, and a commitment to peace. It is a time to foster unity among our communities and across the world, and to work towards a future where all Muslims can practice their faith freely and without fear.
May this Ramadan bring peace, blessings, and mercy to all.
