Honourable Ganief Hendricks, Deputy Minister of Social Development honoured an invite by Mr Vivian Reddy for an opening of the renovated Khulani Children’s Shelter in Durban North.

EThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba also joined the auspicious occasion .

Khulani Children’s shelter was established in the year 2000 by Prudence Mwandla with the stern purpose and unyielding determination, to accommodate children who are abused and abandoned.

Her vision was to see orphaned and vulnerable children being rehabilitated into family and the community.

The Shelter was formally registered as an NPO in 2003, to provide a Place of Safety for orphans, abused and abandoned children as well as to equip disadvantaged youth with life skills which will improve their quality of life in the future. Children are placed at the Shelter by the State Welfare Department and the SAPS, by a Court Order, the shelter is supervised by social workers from the Department of Social Development.
