Al Jama-ah Party mourns the death of Dr Motsoko Pheko, a gallant ‘old guard’ of the resistant movement, Poqo and former President of the Pan-Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) who passed away on April 19, 2024
Dr Pheko, also known as “Babu” (father) amongst PAC members came from the generation of the organisation’s founding President Professor Robert Mangoliso Sobukwe. Dr Pheko was a son of Africa who defied hatred, prejudice, and racism.
He has been described by many revolutionaries as: “One of the African scholars who foresaw the future of Africa. He was a God conscious man, a leader with courage who commanded change inside the South African Parliament,” says Hon Ganief Hendricks leader of Al Jama-ah and Member of Parliament.
Hendricks says Pheko held strong views that South Africa would only belong to all who live in it, only if there are equitable redistribution of land according to the population; and for the minerals of the country to be shared. “He regarded the fight against poverty as ‘a mother of all revolution’ says Hendricks.
We trust that the PAC members – those who are contesting the national elections and those who joined under the wings of Al Jama-ah – will take Dr Pheko’s legacy forward so that all may benefit from it.
Al Jama-ah sends its heartfelt condolences to the Pheko family, the PAC and the African nation.
