Membership is R15 per year and to align the fees with the 2011 elections the new membership year is 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011. This will ensure members are paid up at election time, can vote and be eligible for nomination as ward councillors and officials of the Party and be card carrying members.

Membership must be paid by means of an SMS which costs R10 and the balance of R5 must be paid at meetings called for members to collect their paid up membership cards.When you send the SMS the automated system will record your mobile number and post it to the membership register. You are required to send your name, home address, email address, id number using your mobile number as a reference. This will automatically update the membership register. To be a card carrying member of Aljama there is a membership fee of R15 payable on joining. Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December and is due on 1 January each year. The deadline for renewal is 31 March but will only lapse once a final reminder has been sent by the Party giving the member 2 weeks to bring their membership up to date.

As some members join late in the year they can be exempted at the recommendation of the Branch chairman or the General Secretary of the Party and bring their membership up to date by paying a pro-rata fee for the subsequent year on before the end of that year and the fee for the new year.

For 2009 each applicant for membership since the launch of the Party will receive a statement confirming their membership status.
