AL JAMA-AH SEEN AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE DA AS DA ELECTION TABLE STORMED

The famous Manenberg Avenue also called “Die Laan” was in the news this month. Known as gang territory and headquarters of the “Hard Livings, Funky kids and the Clever Kids” “die laan” was hotly contested in a by-election in ward 45 on 25 April 2012. The DA lost a third of its votes and the ANC, PAC and two other parties were beaten by the AL Al JAMA-AH candidate respected ex cop Fuaad Hendricks. The DA candidate won the ward which included Gugulethu and parts of Heideveld an ANC and DA strong hold.

AL JAMA-AH has now contested this ward four(4) times and will continue to do so until it wins the Ward insha Allah. It contested it for the first time in a by-election in 2008, in the 2009 national elections, in the 2011 municipal elections and now in the 2012 by-elections. This is the first ward the Party has contested since its founding and must be won one day insha Allah. There are 3000 Muslims eligible to vote in this ward.

Like in the recent Lavender Hill by-election another gang infested human settlement the AL JAMA-AH political Party doubled its votes showing an upward trend in support for the Party.

Just before the polls closed the Party fed 500 kids their only hot meal of the day. A cavalcade of the Party led by trumpeters and drums rocked Manenberg before and after Maghrieb. Hundreds of residents joined in the march down “die laan.” The crowd expressed their anger for 18 years of neglect by the DA and other Parties and tore down their posters which led to a complaint to the IEC. The DA table was stormed maybe a sign that the Arab Spring has hit maneneberg. Party stalwart Nadeem Peters apologised for their behaviour.

The Party will start an AL JAMA-AH Beitul Maal in “die laan” and tons of food for distribution is on its way to Party Headquarters in Cape Town. This ward has been wrecked by its councillors for the past 18 years and this will not change easily. Manenberg needs more university and college students, areas around schools should be cleaned and residents want an old age home as children neglect their elderly parents.

COMMUNITY WORKERS RALLY TO WIN ALJAMA-AH COUNCIL MUNICIPAL SEAT IN TWO CITIES

Over 100 community workers rallied together to support AL JAMA-AH and stood as ward candidates in 90 wards in City of Cape Town and 27 wards in the City of Johannesburg. As soon as the election date was announced the race was on to get enough votes for one or more seats in these two municipalities.

The good news is that ALJAMA won a seat in each of the municipalities due to the hard work of its candidates who took time off from running feeding schemes and other community projects to campaign door to door to get voter support. Now that the election is over the aspirant councillors who did not make it to win a ward will continue their community work with more support from the Party. The 2011 municipal elections is the start of their political internship and they will do better insha Allah in the 2014 municipal, provincial and national elections. This is in line with the Party’s founding principles to get more Muslims involved in the political life of the country.

ALJAMA got 8238 votes in Cape Town and 4900 votes in Johannesburg. It still has a long struggle ahead to capture the imagination of Muslim voters and Muslim businesses. Funding was lacking in the run up to the election and many candidates did not have posters and flyers and meals, transport and allowances for campaigners and Party agents. The Party’s main source of funds is its R15 annual membership fees. Party stalwarts put their hands into their own pockets to support the Party with running costs and helped with interest free loans.

The two PR councillors in the City of Cape Town and the City of Johannesburg appointed by the National Working Committee of the Party would like to thank our fellow candidates , their families and friends and supporters for their hard work and support without which they would not have been elected to public office.

FINAL LGE 2011 WESTERN CAPE RESULTS

The IEC Western Cape herewith releases the final provisional results of the Local Government Elections 2011 for the Western Cape. The Electoral Commission of South Africa will confirm the official results and declare the Local Government Elections 2011.

“We delivered the requirements for an election. It had its challenges but solutions were found with the co-operation of the contesting political parties and other stakeholders said Courtney Sampson, Provincial Electoral Officer.

Voter Turnout LGE 2011 – Western Cape: 64,37%

Voter Turnout LGE 2006 – Western Cape: 51.79%

Voter Turnout LGE 2011 – City of Cape Town: 64.66%

Voter Turnout LGE 2006 – City of Cape Town: 49.81%%

Courtney added that the dynamic increase in number of registered voters who casted their votes is an indication of the work rate of political parties and the intense media coverage across all sectors.

RESULTS (Western Cape)

DA: 55.67%

ANC: 33.23%

Seats Won:

DA: 440

ANC: 283

COPE: 8

ACDP: 7

RESULTS (City of Cape Town)

DA: 61.09%

ANC: 33.03%

Seats Won:

DA: 135

ANC: 73

ACDP: 3

COPE : 3

“The LGE 2011 is now of the past. What is left is to manage and confirm the five District Council elections; oversee the roll back of election logistics; continue with the planning for the National and Provincial elections 2014; prepare for local by-elections where required to do so; and other issues including taking leave during the course of next six weeks of the expansion staff that so ably assisted the IEC. This is always a sad part for us as we have become attached to the loyalty, passion and dedication of these people whilst knowing that they are only with the IEC for a contractual period of six months or less said Courtney

The IEC Western Cape thanks all the stakeholders especially the political parties and the safety and security structures for their input, expertise and co-operation it was afforded before, during and after the elections. A special ode of gratitude to the media organisations and the professional individuals that represent these organisations, thank you for your co-operation.

It has been sad for many Muslim women to see other women voting and they prevented to vote by religious restrictions some by their husbands. A separate que for women who choose this will open the doors for all in the Muslim community to exercise their vote – another way South Africa can express its diversity and tolerance and reverance for its women. Senior Muslim religious leaders AL JAMA-AH lobbied, once against any voting, say they will now have no quarrel with Muslims including women voting. The Muslim community is one of the most peaceful communities in the country and this will once again manifest itself on election day insha Allah.

On behalf of AL JAMA-AH I make a pledge that our members while going on a jihad for votes we will do this peacefully and the Party will ensure that on election day our prayers five times on the day will be for a violent free election to showcase the country for job creation investments and we want to thank Dr Brigalia Bam, the IEC team and our police force in advance for their contribution which has not gone unnoticed.

That lawmakers keep parliament to themselves and vote election funds for them only has hampered Multi Party democracy and the IEC must find a way to wipe out this blot against our democracy. Business must come out in support of new political Parties that want their communities to more fully play a role in the political life in the country like the Muslim community.

AL JAMA-AH MAYORAL PLEDGE TO VOTERS

CITY OF CAPE TOWN METRO ELECTIONS

MAYORAL CANDIDATE: GANIEF HENDRICKS 4 April 2011

FAMILY LIFE

Muslims will turn against the Constitution of the country if government listens to human rights bodies , gender and gay activists, Muslim modernists and anti-religion groups to change, modify and reshape the shariah Muslim marriage laws to fully comply with the Constitution, says Party leader and mayoral candidate in the City of Cape Town for the AL JAMA-AH political party Ganief Hendricks. This negative attitude towards the shariah will make it difficult for the Party to position the Muslim community as the most peaceful community in the country. Moreso after government has introduced laws repugnant to the shariah on abortion, same sex marriages, gambling and shebeens and has been soft on drug lords and gangsters because of constitutional restraints.

SHARIAH UNDER FIRE

The Party has called on the Legal Resources Centre leading the campaign against the shariah to withdraw its submission to government on the Muslim Marriages Bill and change its anti-revolutionary response to the legitimate desires of Muslims.

“Such an attitude we have not seen in the worst days of apartheid and it is a blot against freedom of religion and the values of the civil rights movement.” In this day and age to hear an outfit with the likes of legal struggle heroes like George Bizos S.C. , Colin Kahanovitz . N. Fakir and others saying without regard to the sensitivities of Muslims

This may be undesirable to 1.5 million Muslims in South Africa

“ Accepting Islamic Marriage Law would be an absolute abandonment of our most democratic principles.” The Muslim community will have to compromise. Muslim marriage law must be fully in line with the Constitution. On the one hand their submission to government says South Africa must not shun the Muslim faith in its entirety when it comes to their marriage laws and then they say they are prevented from doing this because of the Constitution. No human rights organizaton anywhere in the world has adopted such a hostile attitude to Islam and this has never happened in the over 300 history of Islam in South Africa. Patronizing Islam in other parts of the submission smacks of jingoism, chauvism and hypocrisy. The Legal Resources has shamed itself and the human rights movement.

Is out of place in a South Africa in the first phases of transformation. At the heart core of the Party’s pledge to voters to support it in the forthcoming municipal election is to preserve Muslim family life and the sanctity of marriage in accordance with the shariah.

DRUGS

When family values is entrenched it will become easy to tell Muslim drug lords and gangsters to comply with the shariah and to tell Muslim drug sellers and users to do the same. It will be easy to tell the families and friends of these shariah offenders to ask family elders to deal with them and for the Ulema to pronounce on them and if that fails to report them to the police. The Party will voice radical action in Council chambers against drug users and dealers and introduce the most compassionate measures to assist them comply with the shariah including preferential treatment for jobs and educational opportunities. The Party will get Council to support outfits fighting drugs and gangsterism that meets Islamic and human rights criteria. A substantial budget will be championed for these outfits.

JOBS

Mayoral candidate Ganief Hendricks received recognition as a pioneer of the internet for introducing the first internet jobs in South Africa and creating next generation jobs. As the mayor of Cape Town he wants to mobilize the Party’s candidates to get full employment in the City. The City will get its fair share of President Zuma’s five million jobs and his ward councillors will ensure that suburbs around each voting station gets its fair share of jobs. Councillors will ensure that every employable person including people with disabilities will get at least 2 days of work per week in terms of state policies. Technicons and universities will be lobbied to have satellite campuses in all the subcouncils of the City to develop skills and the Department of Labour will be asked to use more funds from unemployment budgets to put people in jobs. Ward candidates will develop a culture of hard work in wards to improve productivity and every worker will be assisted to join a trade union to help them keep their jobs and be paid decent wages and decent benefits.

‘ I will engage the business people in the Muslim community and other communities to create jobs and make it worth their while with incentives never seen before in the City. This will set the trend for the rest of South Africa. As Mayor I will lobby government to put affirmative action on hold in the City so that all its citizens can work together to get full employment. For starters in 2013 there should be guaranteed jobs for all matriculants who do not enter college or university. They can take a double gap year and work and then go to college and university to improve their skills.

POVERTY

Ward candidates must get a special grant from Council to have feeding schemes and provide a meal everyday for learners when they come out of school and others who are hungry can join the Que. ALJAMA ward councillors must fund one meal per month from their salary and dish out food to the hungry in their ward. They must have direct access to a City Food Bank.

WATER

AL JAMA-AH will change the water policy of the City Council in line with the shariah. There will be no water cuts and the indigent and poor people will have free water.

HOUSING

(1) BACKYARDERS: The Party will get the City to build a suburb for backyarders only to address this 18 year struggle

(2) BLIKKIES DORP: The Party will vote for funds to accommodate “internees” with a model housing settlement to show its compassion for the every poor.

ALJAMA SERVICE DELIVERY HELPDESK

The helpdesk will log every complaint and ward councillors will give voters a quarterly written report and hold a quarterly meeting to get their feedback.

Most young men and women between the ages of 18 to 24 are unemployed and face a bleak future. It is time that this section of society be given more opportunities. They are our future. Employers will be encouraged to give them jobs by getting a subsidy from the treasury of about R1000 towards their monthly salary for at least two years. The Aljama-ah Political Party wants to take this further and help these young people to win seats as ward councillors in the 2011 municipal elections.
The Party has launched a recruitment campaign to attract and select young potential councillors, train them to be councillors and help them campaign to win seats. The Party has also launched an SMS fund raising project to get the community to help finance the recruitment, training and campaign costs of these young people who will come from all over the country. A donation of R10 paid by the SMS will cover the R500 registration costs of the 1000 young people to contest the elections. The target for the campaign is a half a million rand. This will be a sound investment in our youth and the future of the community. In Cape Town the Party Leader Ganief Hendricks will challenge the current Democratic Alliance mayor to give our youngsters a better opportunity to get the votes to win as many seats as possible. His expertise as a Human Resources Specialist and awards for creating new generation jobs will give him an edge over other mayoral candidates. Municipalities need more human resource development. While it will be a contest between Dan Plato and Ganief Hendricks the winners will be our young men and women. Muslim and other voters will be canvassed to vote for Ganief Hendricks rather than Dan Plato. The final mayoral candidate for the Party and the candidates for councillors will be voted for by Party members when the election is called. The Party came 8th out of 24 Parties in the 2009 national elections getting votes in 2000 voting stations in nine provinces.

This should also be included in the school curriculum. The City of Cape Town and its City Fathers missed an opportunity during the past year to show the world the true compassionate nature of its citizens and should have done more to help refugees with their plight. This should be a key Manifesto point in the run up to the 2011 Municipal elections. Cape Town should take in a fair percentage of refugees and help them to enjoy the same rights as its own citizens in every respect. They should get the free allocation of water and 2.5% of subsidized housing should be allocated to them. They should also be given opportunities to be part of the Bambanani helpers and get jobs in the municipal police. There is an important role for refugees during the 2010 Soccer World Cup as many of them come from Africa. Refugees should be repatriated to their countries with resources that will help them restart their lives when the reason for fleeing from their country has been addressed. Muslim organizations should continue to feed indigent refugees which they have done for many years.
